Trauma treatment
Acupuncture can calm the autonomic nervous system.
The balance between the sympathetic (activating) and parasympathetic (calming) functions of our autonomic nervous system (ANS) can be pushed out of their natural balance by trauma, fear and stress. Acupuncture has a calming effect on the body and mind, allowing us to cope better with the daily stresses so we can feel more in control.
Acupuncture to calm the mind
Acupuncture can also be used to create a deep sense of relaxation and well being, in a similar way to meditation.
We have known for a long time that Acupuncture releases endorphins, our own feel-good chemicals, but it has a wealth of other calming emotional effects too. For instance we have acupuncture prescriptions to strengthen hope and lift our spirit.
Special points for emotional balance can be added to a treatment for a physical complaint, or they can be the centre of your treatment.
Counselling techniques combine well with mindfulness, to bring our attention to each moment. When we are fully present we have space to choose how we would like to feel.
I am a fully qualified counsellor (MBACP registered) with a selection of tools and approaches to help you find your balance again. Many clients have said they appreciate having a safe and confidential space to talk and reflect, whilst having their treatment.
